"Why I Should Win Free Fabric" Contest Winners

This was one of the hardest things I've ever had to judge.
I really wish we could make every entry a winner!

Alayne M. - Pajexi
I had to think long and hard on this and I don't mean to be rude, but....
I come to stitches 'n' stones a lot
but never manage to buy.
By the time I make my mind up
It's time to get in the kitchen and fry.
My hubby doesn't earn enough
for all I'd like to buy.
So I am contented drooling
while I wait for him to ......

GET A SECOND JOB!!!!
(Just for the record, I am a "Non working breed") LOL

Pattia A. - Pattia
My cat doesn't have his own fabric yet. I know he is coveting my stash.

Susan K. - Lklover
I have 59 pieces of overdyed fabric and I need one more to make it an even 60. I have OCD and everything in my house must be in even numbers (except my husband because he is one-of-a-kind).

Sandy G.- Sandbird
It's my birthday on Oct. 22, and I'd love to be able to give myself some lovely fabric to stitch. This year my oldest son decided that since he can't afford to send me a gift, that I instead should send him a gift. Not an expensive one, but an unusual one. He wants an armadillo. Not a toy, but a real one. Not necessarily alive - road kill is OK (as long as its not too damaged). He said I can just freeze it, and overnight it to him.

Yes, he's very serious about wanting it. Strange you say? Not really. He's a graduate student in paleontology and could use it in his studies. Anyway we have a bet going now - he says if I can win a contest, then it will count as a gift from him & I won't have to mail him a frozen armadillo. Please let me win, I don't think I can pick up a road kill and do this for him. I've put up with other critters in our freezer in the past, from rattlesnakes to gophers, but armadillos are much larger.

Honorable Mentions (will receive a little something)

Joan E. - Sunshinejo
Because I don't have one piece of fabric at all to work on and the weather up here is awful. If you believe that I have no material can I also sell you some swamp land.

Janie H. - Janiemaray
I am an old lady and as such have earned my right to some freebies, as I have contributed to the art of shopping for many years and feel that maybe its time for retail to give back to me. LOL

Renae R. - Renae
I should get free fabric because I am required BY DRESS CODE to wear nylons between October 1 and Memorial Day.

Kimberly B. - Lady5
Because I am a Snobby, Stingy, Selfish, Swineish, Greedy, Hoggish, Narcissistic, Narrow-Minded, Self-Centered, Gluttenous, Money-Grubbing, Piggish, Fabric HORDER and I NEED more fabby to satisfy my Huge, Empty, Deep, Grand, Enormous, Gigatic, Big, Massive, Colossal, Large, Black, Monumental, Whopping, Giant, Dark, Never-ending, Hole in my closet!!!!!!!

Maureen W. - Xsquilter
Well, because I have a reputation to uphold! I am the biggest Canadian fabric hoarder ever put on this earth! I must keep up stashing or I may be asked to leave my country. I have to have that free peice because I KNOW I don't have that particular colour! It needs to be with the other fabby friends so that they may bring joy to each other. By spreading their colours, rubbing edges, comparing their mottles, & discussing their exquisite dye jobs! So seriously, could you not just imagine the anxiety my little fabbies would display by not having that "one more piece" added to the family??!!!!

Ann T.H. - Helenaz0
I think I should get the free fabric because Im married to Santa and all our spare pennies go on toys for the children and clothes for the elves. Rudolph has cost us a small fortune at the vets this week as his nose lost its glow.

Missy W. - MissyW
I should get free fabric because fairy dust has been sprinkled upon my dog and a lucky flea jumped off and bit me. I then received a magical message to come to your website, enter your contest and win because the fairy dust was transferred to me when the flea bit me so there is a fairy living in my liver and she is like beer if I don't get her out (by winning your contest) I may pass out and never get to stitch on a piece of hand dyed fabric again! p.s. other fairy dust fleas will find you if I lose ;)

Pam A. - Pam1228
I live in the Northeast and we had a miserable summer this year. No tan. I finally found my way to Florida last week and now have a beautiful, golden tan, something like your primitive tan linen..yes, i am somewhat wrinkled, like linen gets...but the color is similar...

Tricia - Earthdancer
well....it all started when i found hand dyed fabric a few years back, it was only a few to start with and now i have adopted well over 120 pieces of hand dyed fabric, i do not discriminate, size colour it does not matter to me i accept one and all and how can i not refuse to offer a home to one you just want to give away?? how could you! these fabric buddies of mine are yelling at me now, to help this lost little fabbie come home to our large family and not be lost anymore. They all wait in anticipation to see whether they get chosen for their next step in life to bring my stitching alive and a memory for all to keep.

Kimberly D.M. - kimstitch3
I think I should win because I'm in a whiny mood cuz I was messing around on here for 3o mins trying to figure out which one I love.

Mary G. - Baby
I should get free fabric because I am a mermaid princess and I DESERVE it!!! Plus, my time here is short and ever shortening. Yes, I know, most people are not aware of this hidden part of my life. I seem like an ordinary old lady living an ordinary life, but in reality, I am heir to a great ocean legacy. My father, King Neptune, and my mother, Darryl Hannah (bet you thought she just pretended in that movie she made!) raised me in the lap of luxury in our Atlantis Castle, but when I turned 21 I had to come out of the sea and live a human life until I turn 50. At that time I must take all my stash with me and return to my true home under the waves. Alas, I will be 50 on my NEXT birtday and I have not yet attained my goal of cornering the market on hand dyed fabric. Once I return to the sea, I won't ever again be able to walk upon the earth and my stash buying days will be over. So, you do see my plight!!! I need to load up on fabric and do it fast! Time is running out and soon, yes, very, very soon, I will returning to my watery home forever. Please, if you care anything at all about the mermaid population, consider me for your free fabric gifting. I will honor every piece, I promise.

Almost Winners:

Michele H. - Karateka913
I am so addicted to fabric, solids, hand dyed, everything. i have so much already my husband says he will kill me(jokingly) if i buy more. so im entering this contest in hopes of winning so he will kill me and i wont have to go to work anymore.i really need a looooong vacation.

Elisa M. - ElisaM
Because this would be your only request for a pre-birthday present exactly 81 days before my birthday! You wouldn't have to rush with packaging and mailing to arrive before my actual birthday, but, I would still have more than two months to fondle the fabric before my birthday.

Liz P. - Lizzymart
I think I should win this fabric because I deserve to get something nice this month. Unlike other who will be getting candy and more stitching stuff. I will be taking 6 kids trick or treating and won't even get a piece of their candy. I'm diabetic and this is my first year going without candy.

Monica P. - Sportsmom
I think I should get a free piece of fabric because the fabric burglar came to my house and can you believe that he stole ALL my fabric!

Rose - Kiwinana
Because, well, i am trying to collect all the delicious colours of fabby, sewing them all together with Dmc to make a big blanket that i could take to my grave therefore being the first person to prove that, you can indeed take your stash with you when you go. Im sure you agree, makes perfect sense to me.:)

Christine M.- Tazzgirl62
I have decided that when I die, I want to be wrapped in all my favorite colors of Aida, Evenweave, Linen & Lugana fabbys! So, obviously, I need all the free pieces of fabby I can to start piecing together my final outfit :-)

Kim R. - Kimbear
I should get free fabric so I can mix it into my cauldron. The recipe in my spellbook calls for eye of spider, tooth of Muskie, threads of hand dyed linen, orts of floss, etc. Shhhhhhhh! I can't reveal the rest of the recipe or my spell won't work.

Linda B.- Mistymoon
Greetings to you from a stitcher from far, far away. Although I masquerade as an Earthling on the 123 stitch board, I am in fact an alien from the planet Threadbare. My home planet is very different from your beautiful planet Earth. Where I come from is devoid of colour, everything is a pale shade of ecru, very close in fact, to it's DMC colour equivalent. On my home planet there are no hobbies to speak of, the only one being sand castle building & believe me it's not a lot of fun trying to build ecru castles out of ecru sand in an ecru world.

The worst thing is, there are no needle hobbies, in fact there are no needles, no thread, no fabric to be found anywhere on Planet Threadbare. Through our advanced technology I was able to intercept Earth's World Wide Web and found the 123 stitch site. Of course, I immediately became fascinated by this Alien Art Form and because of my compulsive and obsessive nature, decided I had to come to Earth.

So, I stowed away on one of our Intergalactic Star Ships, (not unlike the evil Dr. Smith) but I digress. On arrival, I managed to infiltrate Earth Society & joined the 123 MB & bit by little bit became a counted cross stitcher. Of course, I am now completely addicted & cannot live without this hobby. Unfortunately, it was discovered that I stowed away & left Threadbare without the necessary documents and am now being deported back to my home planet. Yes, those rumours of Area 51 are indeed true! The Men in Black caught me & are sending me back!! :( Back to a planet devoid of colour and all things stitchy!

I've managed to secure a supply of needles and thread (yes, Threadbare will soon have thread!) but alas, no fabric was I able to obtain. I would so love to have a piece of your beautiful fabric, it is by far the most gorgeous fabric I've seen on Planet Earth. You are very talented to be able to create such colours as those.

If I were able to obtain a piece of your lovely fabric I would be able to stitch one last beautiful project & perhaps inspire my fellow Threadbare-ites to toss aside their penchant for a colourless word & hopefully begin to create a colourful one using your gorgeous fabric as a guide in the right direction.

I'm a pencil and if I could talk, I would tell all the people that use me and my relatives, not to abuse us so much. We get or I should say, we wind up with many headaches because people are always making some sort of mistake like putting in a period for a comma or putting in extra letters. Naturally, they first throw us on our small rubber heads, then they start scrubbing our heads against the paper. Boy, does it hurt!!. There goes part of us, brushed away like cookie crumbs by a careless hand, not caring about our lives, just his paper. Really that's not as bad as when they put us in some dumb machine, I think they call a pencil sharpener. As you know, they just put you into this little hole and turn the crank. I'm gripped and twisted and ground until I feel my carbon coming to a point. I try to scream and holler, but nobody understands our language but my relatives, so it doesn't do too much good. All that twisting and turning hurts worse than the erasing.
After talking to my mom and pop, about what type of people they like, the soft touch ones or the hard pressers, it took me a while to decide which I liked the best. Here's what mom and pop said about them. See if you agree with us that the soft touch ones are the best:
Pop: "I like the soft touch ones the best because they don't press down real hard and when they make a mistake, they don't have to scrub our heads against the paper as much, so we last longer."
Mom: "I like the soft touch ones the best because they don't press down and wear our carbon down as often."
Pop: "I hate the hard pressers because they press down so hard that it seems they put us in that machine every five minutes."
Mom: "I hate the hard pressers because they press down so hard and when they make a mistake, they have to scrub your head for an awful long time against the paper and by the time they get it done, you're worn to a frazzle."
Now, if you were a pencil and you had all these problems wouldn't you want to win some free fabric? After all mom, pop and I all enjoy stitching in the evening while we're getting over our headaches and since we're pencils we don't make any money to buy fabric so free is the only way we get our fabric and supplies. Well sometimes people will throw stitching supplies in the trash basket and we pull them out but it would be nice to actually receive a nice piece of "new" fabric to share with mom and pop.
